Awakening

Lying an inch or two beneath the forest floor

Earthworms slithering all around her

Mycelium network connecting

Body to ground

Skin, head, chest, fingers and toes,

Healing her age old body.

Dirt, fertile soil, old leaves

Mushrooms growing

Destroying the old, sloughing off the skin

Separating from ego and mind

Decomposing and healing all at once.

They came one by one, first

The Mountain Lion, soft and furry

Eyes alert with her tender gaze.

Then, the Tiger Mother waltzed in to

The scene and finally, the

Jaguar Queen glided closely by

Her space right beside the woman’s mossy hair

Her body with vines, worms, earth,

And sacred plants growing as if

She were adorned on an altar.

She could have been frightened

Their fangs, long and white,

Their claws sharp for tearing flesh

But, she had no Fear

Only Wonder

One by one they laid down beside her

Rubbing up against her (likes domestic cats do)

Their fur so full of wild scents and harmonious holiness

Their heads rolled as they kept nudging

Her, the soil loosening, falling off

The vines no longer strapping her down

Letting her go

No longer is she tied down to the forest floor

Once protected and preserved by this healing growth.

One by one, they began to lick her

With their rough, tenacious tongues and sweet Love

Licking her head, her belly, her fingers

Her toes, bringing life and energy

To her bones and skin

They kept licking, grazing every

Piece of her body, every place they could touch

As if licking off her womb sac

A membrane full of amniotic fluids.

There is no end to this story

She feels them licking her still today

Sensual, delightful strokes

Urging her flesh, bones and organs

To wake up, come back to life

After so many years spent in this

Realm of forest magic, this place of

Spells, curses and wishes.

The Wild, Magnificent Mothers blessed her

With their tongues of Wisdom and Delight,

She is reborn.
