The Great Mother

The tides flowed toward the beach

The swollen ocean birthed her onto the sand

Crawling up out of the sea womb

The amphibious, magenta mermaid, rose by

Pulling herself from beyond

Slithering like a snake toward the

Lush old forest

Slimy, silky and sparkling, she slid

Toward the Garden of Eden

Taking time to convince Eve

To take a big bite out of that apple

From the Tree of Life, then she descended

Into the fertile soil

After burying herself in a seed cocoon

She split open, shedding her skin

Changing into a beautiful rose bush

She grew grand and majestic over time

Dark Red Roses

Everyone who saw her marveled

Everyone who smelled her essence

Was filled with Grace and Love

Only catch was, those who touched

Her sometimes got pricked

They came close wondering

Wandering, searching for truth

She offered the sounds of silence

Stillness, slowing down, just being

And their eyes were opened

They gazed at their wounds

The bright red blood flowing, knowing

She had offered them her best gifts

Too bad they had to be pierced

In order to receive

The beautiful red rose bush sponsored

So much joy, so much fragrance

So much beauty to the world

That she was blessed when in the end

Her petals fell to the ground knowing

That she was yet again transforming

Into another life, a new birth

An easy leap from this world

To so many other worlds

Dancing and singing in delight

We have loved this rose bush

We have shared her bountiful harvest

Making our mistakes along the way

Faith resides in all of us, seeing her

As Peace, Grace, and Love

We ask for her forgiveness

We aspire to be like her

We seek to join her in the afterlife

One day, she will bloom again

Whispering softly to us all

Breathe
