Life on the Periphery: linked by orbital resonances

The Kuiper Belt hosts a variety of

Asteroids, comets, and other

Entities similar to Pluto, to us

Family life on the periphery

A series of ultra-Neptunian bodies

Close but not entwined

Pluto lives on a border

Spinning around, taking

A long time to revolve

Around our sun

Invisible to us for so long

Finally proclaiming space

Pluto is cooler than most planets

That live in the close deep heat

Near the sunny orb of bright

Flames, where Mercury

And Venus revolve, sweating

Our Earth and its temperate

Climate, changing over time

Heating up more and more

Bearing the burden of possibly

Becoming kindling

Pluto's icy surface has a rocky core

Not an island, all alone

This dwarf planet has buddies

On the outskirts of our solar system

Farther out than the centaurs

Full of craters, scars from the past

A fluid ocean under its icy exterior

We might see Pluto as lonely

But no, Pluto is surrounded

By other objects, those others on the edge

The margins, the fringes of our solar system

Unlike the other planets, Pluto is

Eccentric, elliptical instead of ecliptic

Pluto belongs on this perimeter

This boundary, this membrane

Holding space at the outer rim

A porous fascia, protective with

Five tiny moons revolving around it

Tidally locked in hydrostatic equilibrium

Linked by orbital resonances

Far away from the sun

But still connected by

Magnetic forces

Like human beings are held

Close together as well as spatially

Separate and apart

Are we like Pluto, a bridge

A connector to the outer reaches

Beyond human knowledge

Peeking at Divine Mysteries and

Other galaxies and systems

With curiosity, viewing ourselves

As parts of a Whole, the Holy?

Maybe we are all attached as

A web, a network of colorful jewels

Lingering and waiting to see

If we can soak up that juicy

Galactic energy that may pull us

Away from our revolving paths

Connected to our current sun

Truth, beauty, destruction, and love

All exist within all parts of

These systems, every type of

Family linked together in the

Present, and living on the border

With no judgment or shame

Just being who we are
